As the #MeToo movement becomes globalized and women’s marches spring up across continents, many activists have named sexual violence as the issue of today’s time. Sexual assault is pervasive across developed nations as much as developing ones, even as awareness of the issue grows. In October of this year, Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of their efforts to stop the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.
